Zalgo Text Generator
Turn normal words into Z̷͎a̴͖l̸̰g̵̣o̶͚ text, the cursed and creepy style that drips above and below each letter. Type below, pick a Zalgo style or set your own level of chaos in the Zalgo studio, then copy and paste it anywhere.
Zalgo Text in 20 Seconds
- What it is: normal letters with Unicode combining marks stacked above, through and below them, so text looks cursed, creepy or glitched.
- Also called: cursed text, creepy text, scary text, demonic text or evil text.
- Is it a font? No. It is real text, so it copies and pastes into almost any app without installing anything.
- Watch out for: every mark counts as a character, usernames reject it, and screen readers cannot read it well.
- Need it gone? Paste it into the Zalgo remover below to get clean letters back.
Make Your Own Zalgo Text: Choose the Level of Chaos
The styles above are ready made. Here you are in control. This studio works as a cursed text generator, a creepy text generator and a demonic text generator in one: set the chaos, choose where the marks grow, curse only the words you want, check it fits your app and save it as an image.
Remove Zalgo Text and Get Clean Letters Back
Got a cursed message you cannot read, or a name full of marks you want to clean? Paste it here. The remover strips every stacked mark and leaves only the normal letters.

What Is Zalgo Text?
Zalgo text is writing that looks like it is being swallowed by something. Marks pile up above each letter, slash through the middle and drip down below, so the words seem glitched, haunted or possessed. Despite the look, it is still ordinary text you can select, copy and paste.
The name comes from an internet horror meme. Around 2004, forum users began editing innocent comic strips so the characters warped into dark, melting figures, with captions like "He comes" and the name Zalgo. The creepy, overflowing writing that went with those edits became known as Zalgo text, and the Zalgo creepypasta made it a staple of horror stories, memes and gaming chats.
Today people also call it cursed text, creepy text, scary text, demonic text or evil text. Some search for a Zalgo font or a cursed font, but no font file is involved: the effect is built from characters, which is why Zalgo text copy and paste works in apps that never let you change fonts. This Zalgo font generator makes every version of it.
How a Zalgo Text Generator Works
Unicode, the standard every phone and computer uses for text, includes combining marks. They exist so a letter like e can carry an accent, as in é. The trick behind Zalgo is that there is no hard limit on how many marks one letter can carry.
Marks above
Accents such as ̍ ̎ ̄ ̿ stack upward, so the text seems to rise or burn.
Marks through the middle
Strokes like ̶ and ̴ cut across letters and look like scratches.
Marks below
Marks such as ̖ ̙ ̞ hang under the line and look like dripping.
A Zalgo text generator picks marks from these three groups at random and attaches a set number to each letter. More marks means more chaos. Because each mark is its own character, the word Zalgo at the Demonic level can be well over a hundred characters long.
Creepy, Cursed, Scary or Demonic Text: Which Level to Use
Whether you came for a scary text generator or a demonic text generator, the difference is mostly the amount of marks. The right level depends on where the text is going. Here is the same word at four levels, ready for cursed text copy and paste.
| Level | Example | Best for | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light (creepy) | Z̖̍a̟̐l̙̅g̪̊ŏ̞ | Names, bios and display names where people still need to read it | |
| Medium (cursed) | Z̖̙̞̍̎̄͏a̢̟̥̪̐͒͗l̙̞̤̅̿̑͘g̪̗̜̊̉̍͏ŏ̧̞̤̩̐͒ | Captions, comments and chat messages | |
| Heavy (scary) | Z̖̙̞̤̩̍̎̄̅̿͏͘a̶̢̟̥̪̗̜̐͒͗͑̇l̴̙̞̤̩̖̅̿̑̆̐͘g̪̗̜̟̥̊̉̍̎̄͏͘ŏ̧̞̤̩̖̙̐͒͗͑͏ | Horror posts, story titles and thumbnails | |
| Extreme (demonic) | Z̖̙̞̤̩̖̙̞̍̎̄̅̿̑̆̐͏͘a̶̢̟̥̪̗̜̟̥̪̐͒͗͑̇̈̊̉l̴̙̞̤̩̖̙̞̤̅̿̑̆̐͒͗͑͘g̪̗̜̟̥̪̗̜̊̉̍̎̄̅̿̑͏͘ŏ̧̞̤̩̖̙̞̤̩̐͒͗͑̇̈̊͏ | Memes, art and pranks where readability does not matter |
Where Zalgo Text Works and Where It Breaks
Zalgo text pastes into most places that accept normal text, but every mark counts toward the character limit, and some apps clean it up. Check this before you post.
| Place | Does it work? | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Discord | YesMessages and display names | Usernames stay plain. Heavy Zalgo in chat can cover other messages, so keep it short. |
| YesBio, captions, comments | The bio has a 150 character limit and every mark counts, so use the Light level there. | |
| TikTok | YesCaptions and comments | Short creepy words work best. The bio limit fills up fast. |
| X (Twitter) | YesPosts and display name | Each mark uses part of the post limit, so a single cursed word is the sweet spot. |
| Games like Roblox | Often filtered | Many games remove special characters from names and chat. Test in game first. |
| Usernames and handles | No | Most apps only allow plain letters, numbers and a few symbols in an @handle. |

Tips for Using Scary Text Without Annoying People
Do
- Use one or two cursed words for impact
- Pick Light or Creepy for names and bios
- Save Demonic text for jokes, art and horror posts
- Preview it on a phone before posting
Avoid
- Long paragraphs of heavy Zalgo in group chats
- Putting important details in cursed text
- Spamming it in servers that ban it
- Using it where screen reader users need to follow along
Screen readers read Zalgo text mark by mark or skip it entirely, so a cursed message can be impossible for blind users to understand. Keep anything important in plain text.
